More than 30 riders with Bike & Build visited the Huntington area on June 28 and 29. During their visit, a bike safety clinic was offered at the Barnett Center and the volunteers helped at two Huntington WV Area Habitat for Humanity (HWVAHFH) construction sites. First Presbyterian Church provided lodging for the group, and several riders visited Huntington's Kitchen before leaving the area. Bike & Build is a nonprofit organization that coordinates cross-country cycling trips to raise awareness for the need of affordable housing. During their rides, Bike & Build participants stop in several cities to participate in building homes and giving community presentations to encourage discussion of affordable housing issues in the area. |

On behalf of the partner families, Board members, staff, and volunteers of Huntington WV Area Habitat for Humanity, we sincerely thank everyone who joined us for the 2011 Habitat Golf Classic. For three consecutive years, the Habitat Dinner Dance and Habitat Golf Classic have served as the affiliate’s largest fundraisers. We are pleased to report this year’s events were no exception. By partnering with Huntington WV Area Habitat for Humanity, those who attended are helping us to eliminate substandard housing while positively impacting lives, one family at a time. |

In the days leading up to Mother’s Day, construction crews of female volunteers pounded nails and raised walls at Habitat construction sites across the country in recognition of National Women Build Week, April 30 through May 8. In Huntington, on April 30, female volunteers worked on the Ferguson family’s new home. Lowe’s is providing Huntington WV Area Habitat for Humanity a $5,000 Lowe’s store gift card, as well as in-store volunteer training, in support of this one-day build. Lowe’s, the underwriter of Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program, awarded more than $1.3 million to over 250 Habitat affiliates across the United States during National Women Build Week. Approximately 10,000 female volunteers worked at Habitat for Humanity construction sites during this time.
Habitat’s National Women Build program recruits, educates and inspires women to build decent and affordable homes for low-income families in their communities. |

Huntington WV Area Habitat for Humanity achieved a milestone when they broke ground on their 75th house on Wednesday, January 19 at 12:30 p.m. Future home of Mr. Hubert “Oochie” Ferguson, Jr., the groundbreaking celebration will took place at 1750 Artisan Avenue, in Huntington.
“When trying to determine a theme for this build we felt it should be the Cabell County Churches Build,” said David Michael, Executive Director and CEO of the affiliate. “After all, Habitat for Humanity was built by faith. What better way to honor our origin than by having the 75th house built by the churches of Cabell County?” |
